Review: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

BLURBS:
*this book and this review is for mature readers only*

where I got my copy: I borrowed it from our local library
where to buy: BN, amazon, Borders

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

THOUGHTS:
Our heroine's name is Catherine Crawfield by day, Cat Raven by night and no she is not a transvestite, a stripper, nor a private investigator. She is half vampire and she visits local watering holes / clubs where she flirts with fanged men, lure them outside with a promise of debauchery and carnal pleasures, only that never happen to them because before they know it... They're already dead. Why is she doing it? Well her mother said she was raped by her father who is a vampire. So yes there is a lot of hating. Then she met Bones, her would be victim only he knows what's up so.. She tried to fight him for her freedom but lost, she was given a choice though, well, her only option actually. To team up with him. He is a Vampire Hitman. Bones trained her and gave her informations on how to properly kill them (aside from the one that she already know).

Bones and Cat make a good team. They bicker but they work well together. A fantastic start of a series. Fast and easy read with an equal amount of action and lots of sexual tension. My only complaint was the mercenary work. It needs more improvement. Cat dressed as a hooker with no panties, pretending to be underage, not working too well for me. But other than that it was a good job. I listed this in my series collection.

I love this series! A couple of things-- later you find out about the "no panties" thing, and it's hysterical. I think undercover stuff is because the vampires are drawn to her without really knowing why and if she's trampy it makes them relax and not think of her as a threat til it's too late. It's works:)

Nice review! Halfway to the Grave is definitely a fun start to a sexy, entertaining urban fantasy series! I am looking forward to reading Jeanine Frost's Spade spinoff - First Drop of Crimson. :)
